The audition and admission process
STEP 1 : REGISTERING FOR THE AUDITIONS
Registration for the auditions starts on October 6, 2023. The deadline is March 9, 2024 for the auditions in Québec City.
To register, the candidate must fill in the registration form in French. Registration fees amount to 50$.
STEP 2 : DOCUMENTS TO PROVIDE
Once the registration form is filled out, all candidates must send the following documents by e-mail to tpaquet@ledq.qc.ca :
- Two photographs : a portrait and a head to toe picture of you wearing dancing clothes,
- A recommandation letter written by a (former) professor, employer, etc. in which they talk about your know-how and attitude in a learning context.
STEP 3 : FILL OUT YOUR ADMISSION APPLICATION TO THE SRACQ (Cégep)
Deadline : March 1st, 2024
In order to register for the DCS/DEC technique Danse-interprétation (run jointly with the Cégep de Sainte-Foy), you must fill out an admission application on the Service régional d’admission au collégial de Québec’s website (SRACQ). Canadian students can do so from mid-January, 2024.
Candidates who already hold a DCS/DEC (Diploma of College Studies) also have to fill out an admission application on the SRACQ’s website in order to be registered at the Cégep, even if they will be given equivalences for the classes they have already taken. The dance classes we teach amount to a sufficient number of hours for you to be considered a full-time student.
Candidates who wish to register for the ACS/AEC in Contemporary Dance (Attestation of College Studies) do not need to fill out the admission application on the SRACQ’s website.
Candidates who wish to register for the Preparatory Year can fill out the admission application on the SRACQ’s website although it is not mandatory. Please contact us if you wish to receive more information on this.
THE AUDITION ITSELF
On the day of the auditions, the audition process lasts a whole day (from 9 am to 4pm). It includes an audition in a group (warm-up session, contemporary dance class, ballet class and an interpretation workshop). The jury is composed of professors teaching at L’EDQ and of professional guest artists.
If necessary, you might be invited to a personal interview at a later date as well.
Candidates do not have to prepare anything before the audition. Throughout the process, we evaluate each candidate’s physical abilities, artistic and creative potential as well as their level in dance.
We look for responsive, expressive, authentic and committed dancers!
Our criteria :
- Overall physical condition,
- Fluidity of the mouvement,
- Artistic, creative and musical abilities,
- Learning speed,
- Adaptability,
- Implication throughout the process.
The registration for and the participation in the auditions is obligatory.
