Auditions and admissions to the Professional program

L’École de danse de Québec’s next auditions will take place on February 28th, 2021 in Québec city. Registration for the auditions starts on October 1st, 2020. Regardless of the program you wish to join, you must register for the auditions.

The audition and admission process 

STEP 1 : REGISTERING FOR THE AUDITIONS

Registration for the auditions starts on October 1st, 2020. The deadline is February 28th, 2021 for the audition in Québec city. 

To register, the candidate must fill out the registration form. Registration fees amounts to 50$ (70$ if you wish to pre-audition by video). 

STEP 2 : DOCUMENTS TO PROVIDE

Once the registration form is filled out, all candidates must send the following documents by e-mail to tpaquet@ledq.qc.ca

  • Two photographs : a portrait and a head to toe picture of you wearing dancing clothes, 
  • A recommandation letter written by a (former) professor, employers... in which he or she talks about your know-how and attitude in a learning context, 
  • A copy of your birth certificate. 

STEP 3 : FILL OUT YOUR ADMISSION APPLICATION TO THE SRACQ (Cégep)

Deadline : March 1st, 2021

In order to register for the DEC technique Danse-interprétation (run jointly with the Cégep de Sainte-Foy), you must fill out an admission application on the Service régional d’admission au collégial de Québec’s website (SRACQ). Canadian students can do so from February 1st, 2021. 

Candidates who already hold a DEC also have to fill out an admission application on the SRACQ’s website in order to be registered at the Cégep, even if they will be given equivalences for the classes they have already taken. The dance classes we teach amount to a sufficient number of hours to be considered a full time student. 

Candidates who wish to register for the AEC in contemporary dance do not need to fill out the admission application on the SRACQ’s website. 

Candidates who wish to register for the PPMN can fill out the admission application on the SRACQ’s website although it is not mandatory. Please contact us for more information on this.     

PRELIMINARY AUDITION BY VIDEO

Candidates who live more than 500 kms away from L’École de danse de Québec can send a video of them that will be used as a preliminary audition, i.e. based on the video, we will let you know whether it is worth coming to Québec to take part in the audition (which remains mandatory). 

Please note that international candidates MUST send a video as a preliminary audition. 

Videos can be sent from October 2020 to February 15th, 2021 to info@ledq.qc.ca using WeTransfer.    

This video MUST include :    

  1. FACING FRONT AND A WITH A SIDEWAYS VIEW 

     

    Show a dynamic alignment of your body, standing, in neutral position and with legs in parallel.

    Show rolling down and rolling up through the spine, legs in parallel,  8 counts going down and 8 counts coming up.

  2. FACING FRONT

     

    Pliés In 1st and in 2nd positions, 4 repetitions in each position.

    A sequence demonstrating mobility of the spine and of the hips and of its articulations

  3. FACING FRONT, IN THE CENTRE OR AT THE BARRE, IN PARALLEL OR IN FIRST POSITION, DIRECTION OF THE LEGS FRONT, SIDE AND BACK, 4 REPETITIONS IN EACH DIRECTIONS

    Battements tendus and battements dégagés (jetés),

    Grands battements,

    A sequence demonstrating extensions of the legs, repeated from both sides fo the body

  4. FACING FRONT, IN THE CENTRE 

    A combination, demonstrating the movements of the trunk and moving through space,

    A jumping combination demonstrating a rebound,

    A large jump sequence demonstrating dynamic movements through space, done both sides

    A sequence showing movements through space, on the ground and with various hands, feet and other supports 

    A solo, no longer than 2 minutes demonstrating your expressive and artistic qualities

    An improvisation no longer than 1 minute in contemporary dance

THE AUDITION ITSELF

The audition process lasts a whole day (from 9 am to 4pm). It includes a personal interview as well as several group auditions (warm up session, contemporary dance class, ballet class and a interpretation workshop). The jury is composed of professors who all teach at L’EDQ.  

Candidates do not have to prepare anything before the audition. Throughout the process, we evaluate each candidate’s physical abilities, artistic and creative potential as well as his/her level in dance. We look for authentic and highly involved dancers! Our criteria :

  • Overall physical condition, 
  • Fluidity of the mouvement, 
  • Artistic, creative and musical abilities, 
  • Learning speed, 
  • Adaptability,  
  • Implication throughout the process. 

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

FRENCH CANDIDATES 

Thanks to the agreement signed between France and Québec regarding education, French students do not have to pay the extra fees that usually apply to international students. The only payable fees are the Cégep de Sainte-Foy’s tuition fees. More details can be found on the SRACQ’s and Cégep de Sainte-Foy’s websites.  

In order to finalize the registration process, the following steps must be completed by February 15th, 2021 : 

  1. Register for the audition
  2. Provide the required documents,
  3. Send a preliminary audition video, 
  4. Fill out your admission application to the SRACQ.

 

NON-FRENCH INTERNATIONAL CANDIDATES

For all non-French international students, L’EDQ offers the AEC (or Attestation d’études collégiales en danse contemporaine). 

In order to finalize the registration process, the following steps must be completed by February 15th, 2021 : 

  • Register for the audition 
  • Provide the required documents,
  • Send a preliminary audition video. 

 

ALL INTERNATIONAL CANDIDATES

All international candidates who receive an offer from L’EDQ must undertake the following steps : 

  1. Obtain a “Certificat d’acceptation du Québec” (CAQ) from the Ministry of Immigration, Diversity and Inclusion.  It takes approximately 25 business days to obtain. 
  2. Obtain a study permit from the Canadian visa office. Find out about the requirements here.  
  3. Show proof of health (including hospitalisation) insurance coverage. Go to the Régie de l’assurance maladie’s website to obtain your health card.
